Method
- Sift the flour, sugar, salt and baking powder into a large bowl.
- Stir in the milk, mix with a handheld whisk to form a smooth dough.
- Add egg and cinnamon, and stir into a smooth batter
- Let the batter rest a bit while preparing the apples.
- Peel and core the apples.
- Then cut into slices about 2 cm thick.
- Drizzle a little lemon juice on the apples so they don't turn brown
- Place the oil in a heavy frying pan to about 2cm depth
- Heat oil on medium heat to about 180 C
- Dip an apple slice into dusting flour, then batter the rings using two forks to move them in the batter and then carefully place them in the hot oil.
- Fry for about 2or 3 minutes on both sides until golden brown.
- Process the remaining apple slices in the same way.
- Place the finished slices on kitchen paper to drain
- Make a mixture of sugar and cinnamon and roll the apple slices in the cinnamon sugar while they are still hot
- Traditionally served with vanilla ice cream or vanilla sauce or light pouring custard
